L.A.S. VINO'S NIC PETERKIN

MARGARET RIVER WINE

Luck. Art. Science. We can’t get enough of Nic Peterkin's creative, minimal intervention, maximum flavour approach at his Margaret River wine label L.A.S Vino.

What are you up to now?

It's lunchtime at the winery. Margaret River wood fired sour dough with tomatoes and basil from the garden, topped with olive oil from the farm.

Best part of being a winemaker in Margaret River?

Surf, raw beauty, produce. Also the climate grows the best grapes in the world, so makes winemaking a little easier.

Best wine to take to a party?

Depends on the party. Albino PNO is a party pleaser as is the new Albino Sparkling. Pirate Blend always gets people merry. Try to bring older wines to party’s where the friends are keen on wine.

Favourite time to enjoy a good wine?

Home at the dam. With a fire in winter or a swim in summer.

Favourite tunes during vintage?

A lot of NTS Radio at the moment. We've also made Spotify mixes for each of the wines. L.A.S. VINO CBDB (disco) is quite enjoyable.

Bottle you’re hanging out to open?

Vintage has ended so opened all of them over easter, time to buy some more! Been smashing a lot of riesling from the Great Southern at the moment. Quality/price ratio is epic. Also Macedon ranges pinot/chard is perking me up at the moment.

Your unsung hero of varietals?

Chenin Blanc. Obviously.

Yep, loaded question. What are you really excited for right now?

We bottled the new release wines in January. So it's exciting seeing how they're evolving and developing in the bottle. I've only tried each wine once or twice and each time they are getting better so every time we pop a cork its pretty exciting. Also some of the 2022 vintage wines have just settled down in barrel so tasting those is a little exciting, you get a glimpse into the vintage and what they'll become.
